Here’s a list of 101 things to see and do in Sydney for under $50:

  1. Friend in Hand – See one of the best comedy shows the town has to offer on Thursdays, from 7.30pm. Entry is $10, and since the venue claims to be ‘more of a museum than a pub’, you can have a side of history with your comedy.
  2. Pub crawl – Backpackers can go bar-hopping for one day or during the evening with Sydney Pub Crawl for $20. You’ll get to meet new people as well as enjoying free pizza and 4 free drinks
  3. Flying Fajita Sisters – This Mexican restaurant sells $3 tacos on Tuesdays. Tequila shots are also $3.
  4. Courthouse Hotel – If you’re a vegetarian (or just love veggie food), go here on a Wednesday from 7.30pm-9pm. Vegetarian dishes and jugs of Bulmers cider are worth $10 each.
  5. Royal Botanical Gardens – Visit the Royal Botanical Gardens and get a taste of Australian wildlife and plants, absolutely free. With over 30 hectares of garden to visit, you can spend all day there. Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the bright and colourful flowers.

  20. Sydney Dance Company – If you love dancing, consider taking a dance class at the company’s Walsh Bay studios. 60 casual dance classes are offered each week and cost $20 a visit.
  21. The Star Casino– You don’t need to spend anything to enter The Star. You can simply take a walk through the casino and watch the hustle and bustle of people on the pokies or enjoying a game of blackjack. There is also a few bars inside so if you want an excuse to dress up, head there and have a drink.
  22. Cooking Class at Jones the Grocer – Located inside Westfield Sydney, this store runs all kinds of cooking and food appreciation classes. For $40 a person, you can take a class where you learn to appreciate cheese in all its glory.

  28. Sydney Opera House – It’s free to take a walk around the white sails of the opera house, have a picnic on the grass next to it or climb up all the 184 stairs at the front.

  78. Climb Fit – Get fit and healthy at the biggest indoor climbing and gym facility in Sydney. The entry fee is $26, including a pair of shoes and a harness.

  89. White Rabbit Gallery – It’s open from Wednesday-Sunday, 10am-5pm, and entry is free. It has collections of contemporary Chinese art, as well as a restaurant serving delicious dumplings.
  90. Australian Centre for Photography – The gallery is open from Tuesday-Sunday and admission is free. You can also take courses and attend workshops from Saturday-Thursday.
  91. The Australian Museum – The museum offers something for everyone. The family ticket costs $18 (one adult and two children). Children under five can enter free of charge.
  92. Museum of Sydney – Explore colonial and contemporary Sydney through objects, pictures and digital media for $10.
  93. Brett Whiteley Studio – Visit the workplace and home of famous Aussie artist Brett Whiteley for free, from Friday-Sunday, 10am-4pm.
  94. Sydney Opera Bar – It’s located beneath the opera house and entry is free, although you do have to pay for the drinks. Outside is a sitting area where you can view the harbour and the harbour bridge.

  96. The Rocks – Visit The Rocks Markets where people sell things like clothes and handmade jewellery or go to an English pub to see bands perform live. You can do these for free.
  97. Rozelle Markets – It’s open on the weekend with free entry, from 9am-4pm. You’ll find affordable vintage clothing, furniture, jewellery, antiques, bric-a-brac, and more.
  98. Goat Island – Visit Goat Island in Sydney’s harbour, and learn about its convict past.
  99. North Head Lookout – Watch the sunset at North Head as you gaze from the harbour to Sydney’s city skyline.
  100. Bronte Park – Use the coin operated barbecues at Bronte Park for a relaxing (and cheap) afternoon in the sun.
  101. Eveleigh Farmers Market – Every Saturday from 8am, enjoy gourmet eats in a funky industrial setting. There is also an artisans’ market on the first Sunday of the month, where you can browse local design and craft goods.
